Soldier Story heads to the Eastern Front with this release of a late war SS troop.
-
This figure represents a troop from the infamous SS division Wiking.
-
As typical with Soldier Story, the gear is reproduced using metal and leather components, so even stuff like basic German web gear are sought after pieces on the loose market.
-
The pea dot camo uniform is well done and colors are excellent.
-
Folks will either love or hate the headsculpt. Expressive sculpts are great as they add variety. However, it also limits the context of where the figure can be displayed. A guy just standing with a battle yell on looks kinda silly.
-
However, if he is tossing a grenade or firing a weapon, he looks pretty tough.
-
The pea dot uniform has functional buttons and great tailoring..
-
The boots are the later war two tone type with a combination of smooth and rough out leather.
-
Before some expert chimes in and says such boots did not exist, check out this page from the excellent Deutsche Soldaten by Augustin Saiz.
-
The pea dot camo saw use on all fronts toward the end of the war. You would often see it worn over the normal wool tunics.
-
Achtung! I am really mad that I am bald! Sometimes hard to make a screaming figure look cool when standing getting ready to gear up.
-
Soldier Story has also included an excellent M42 SS tunic and M38 sidecap.
-
The interior of the tunic is lined and has the wound dressing pocket.
-
The buttons are scale sized and have pebble texture.
-
The P-38 Walther holster is well done and has great stitching as well as the metal buckle.
-
Holster works just like the real one with the buckle/tang closure.
-
Walther P-38 pistol is plastic and has working slide.
-
Figure comes with another Soldier Story work of art wood and metal PPsH submachine gun. This Russian weapon was favored by the Germans for its high rate of fire and large magazine.
-
It was darn cold on the Russian front, and the fur lined anorak was a favored garment to keep warm.
-
FIgure comes with bendy hands that fit in the gray wool like gloves.
-
The thing about previously released versions of the anorak was that the hoods were always funky. Soldier Story did a good job as it lays well.
-
Hood is big enough to go over helmet.
-
Also included are the winter trigger finger mittens. These will fit on the posed hands.
-
The little things are sometimes go unnoticed. The helmet has been whitewashed over a gray base. So you can ding it up and reveal the basecoat as much as you like (just like the real ones).
-
Sometimes even the mundane item shows how far this hobby as come. The gas mask is well done and highly detailed.
-
The gas mask goes on just like the real one and has the neck strap.
-
Basic load out.
-
E tool is wood and metal, mess kit is metal, gas mask canister is metal.
-
Detail of items opened up.
-
Detail shot of bayonet and e tool.
-
Gas mask and filter fit in the metal canister.
-
Soldier Story always does a great job on their wood and metal weapons and this PPsH is loaded with detail.
-
The PPsH has an opening action, spring loaded bolt and comes with real metal rounds.
-
Great German gear from Soldier Story and a host of uniform options.
